I have a thing for pattern-mixing.... and loafers. I love loafers.

Subtle Sequin

Top: American Eagle (similar); Vest: Gap (similar); Skirt: Forever 21; Necklace: Macy's (similar); Heels: Zara (not so similar, but with just a hint of metallic I LOVE these for fall); Sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Sometimes a little bit of sequin is the perfect amount of sparkle and shine to add to a monochromatic look. The touch of cable-knit feels seasonally appropriate and transitional.

Taking advantage of the last few warm nights of the summer. Happy Weekend!

Bring on the Cardigans

Pants: Forever 21 (similar style); Sleeveless Chambray: H&M (similar); Cardigan: Urban Outfitters; Heels: Zara (similar round-toe style); Necklace: Urban Outfitters (also love this one); Sunglasses: Tiffany & Co.

I've been feeling a little under the weather lately, which might explain why I've been gravitating towards long sleeves and sweaters (as well as consuming Starbucks' Zen tea at no end), even though temperatures during the day are still reaching the mid-20's. The upside is I'm getting an early start on re-discovering old fall favorites and mixing and matching transitional items for when the leaves actually begin to shift colour.

Hope your week is going well so far - Friday is just around the corner!

Fall Colours

Shirt: Gap; Pants: Gap; Necklace: Forever 21; Heels: Aldo (old, try a burgundy pair like these); Purse: Michael Kors (similar); Bracelet: Madewell; Watch: Michael Kors; Glasses: Tiffany & Co.

I picked up these pants and this shirt on a recent shopping outing on the hunt for a few fall staples. I absolutely love the hue of these pants. As soon as I picked them up I could instantly envision them pairing nicely with almost every colour, from navy to burgundy, to burnt orange. What are some of your favourite fall colour combinations?

Paper-bag Shorts

Sweater: Gap; Shorts: French Connection (similar); Heels: Nine West (similar); Watch: Michael Kors; Necklace: H&M (try this beautiful beaded one over a crew-neck); Sunglasses: Tiffany & Co.

I find that paper-bag shorts are one of the easiest styles of shorts to dress up with heels, even if you just feel like wearing a long-sleeve crew-neck because it's starting to get a little chillier out. As of late I'm also pretty attached to this so-easy-to-do pony that feels effortless, yet put together at the same time. Any other simple, yet chic hairstyle suggestions out there? Send them this way please!

P.S. I recently joined the iPhone cult (late arrival, I know), so you can now follow along with me on Instagram! Search: "prettyinpolkadot" for more updates :)

Fall Tradition

Plaid Top: Gap (new, similar here); Skirt: Forever 21 (similar); Ankle Boots: DSW; Necklace: Forever 21; Bracelet: Forever 21; Nail Polish: Gosh 60 Lambada

Working at Gap for 6 years during my high school and college years started one tradition that I have yet to break: stocking up on a few basic fall essentials with my staff discount before the start of the new school year. Although that discount is long-gone now and I'm out of school, I still find that Gap has some great foundation pieces for the start of a new season, whether you're looking for school, work, or weekend-wear. This time around I was particularly drawn to the bright pants and patterned oxfords in plaids and polka dots. I'm also really enjoying the fact that transition colours this year seem to be brighter than the usual subdued hues, like eggplant and hunter green.

Onesie

Jumpsuit: Winners (similar here); Heels: Zara (similar); Sunglasses: Ray-Ban; Clutch: Banana Republic; Watch: Michael Kors; Earrings: Banana Republic

This is one of the most comfortable pieces of clothing I own. And it's also just exactly that - one piece of clothing. Getting dressed has never been so easy!

Vintage-ish

Dress: vintage (similar); Heels: Nine West (similar); Clutch: Banana Republic; Necklace: Forever 21 (splurge)

This dress was actually passed down to me by my aunt (not sure if that qualifies it as vintage? Family heirloom just sounds a little bit too intense).  Either way, it's 100% silk, Canadian made, and in a classic neutral shade, which makes it so easy to wear and dress up or down. I wore it over the weekend with leopard print heels to keep the look fairly monochromatic, but a colourful sandal (something suede perhaps for transitioning into fall) would be a fun contrast as well.

Hope you had a great weekend (long weekend for those of you in Canada)! Also, wanted to say a quick thanks for all the support, encouragement, and new followers last week! The blogging community it by far one of the friendliest. Enjoy your Tuesday!
